Africa International University (AIU) was born in 1983 as Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology (NEGST). Its home was a chicken farm where the chicken coops were converted into classrooms, dorms and administrative offices. A renovated dog food factory served as the dinning hall and the cow shed still housed a number of cows.
Through the years by God's grace and the support of Christian donor organizations, Churches and individuals; student apartments were soon built, a chapel followed, a library was constructed, a new classroom building and faculty offices completed and the cow shed was expanded into a guest house.
As a private university AIU does not receive government funding. Being an interdenominational institution, the university is also not financially supported by a specific mainstream church although many churches do support their students, programmes, faculty and projects. Donor support has built NEGST and it is the same support that we look to grow AIU.
AIU's long-term vision is to provide more students with the opportunity to learn and to become influencers who will be part of God's mission on the continent of Africa and beyond.
In order to do this, AIU is launching the Transforming Hope Campaign on 4 November , 2011. The Campaign aims to raise Ksh. 800 million over the next 5 years. In order to do this we need partners of all kinds. It is truly amazing what God can accomplish through a willing giver.
We are trusting in the Lord's provision as we launch this fund to train the next generation of leaders who will bring transforming hope to our communities, countries and continent.
